This is a small decorative desk or mantle Celestial compass finished in antique brass with a solid timber rosewood base. Longitude and latitude are stamped around the ring for an authentic look. The Celestial compass is a device that is pointed to a known star (including the sun) and will indicate true north. This compass is not that sophisticated as is it purely a decorative item. It is modeled on the old style Celestial compass of 18th century.
